History of Utah

With the assassination of Joseph Smith, Jr., in Carthage, Illinois, in 1844, many saints who remained in Nauvoo. The Brigham Young and the Mormon pioneers came to the Salt Lake Valley on July 24, 1847.following this in next 22 years more than 70,000 pioneers crossed the plains and settled in Utah. In the beginning years Brigham Young and many other settlers in the Salt Lake City struggled for their survival in the region. The Barren desert land was acquired by the Mormons the reason was that the place being serene it was easy for them to practice their religion all in peace.



Utah is very famous for being a source of many pioneer settlements located in other western places. Since very beginning the Salt Lake City was only considered as the only hub of commonwealth particularly of Mormon settlement. The church leaders use to assign groups of church members to make settlements all through the western region.




During the 1800s, the Mormon pioneers called by Brigham Young left the Salt Lake City and they established various other settlements in the places like the Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Wyoming, California, Canada, and Mexico. It also included many important places like Star Valley, Las Vegas, Nevada, Franklin, California, Idaho, San Bernardino, Carson Valley, Wyoming and Nevada.

Many important settlements have happened in the region of Uttah including the St. George, Logan, and Manti, Parowan, Cedar City, Bluff, Moab, Vernal, Fillmore. The first pioneers visit the place during 1847 till that time Utah was still a Mexican territory.

During the American Civil War, many federal troops had to leave the Utah Territory, leaving the entire territory in the hands of LDS when Patrick E. Connor arrived with a regiment of California volunteers in 1862. Fort Douglas was established by Connor just three miles to the east of Salt Lake City.
