Skydiving

Skydiving is the art of uilding in free-fall with multiple people gripping each other's limbs or specially built "grippers" on their jumpsuits. Skydiving can further be divided into several sub categories like:

  • 4-way sequential
  • 4-way vertical sequential (VRW)
  • 8-way sequential
  • 16-way sequential
  • 10-way speed
  • Large formations (Big-ways)

The current FAI world record for largest free fall formation is a 400-way set on February 8, 2006 in Udon Thani, Thailand. It was held for 4.25 seconds. They use five C-130 Hercules airplanes and exited from and altitude of 25,000 feet.

Skydiving is a sort of parachuting. But this is a recreational parachuting. Generally, a trained skydivers and a group of associates meet in an isolate airport for the diving and is often referred as "drop zone". A typical jump involves individual jumping out of aircraft, usually an airplane, but sometimes a helicopter or a ballon and traveling at approximately 4000 meters altitude and free-falling for a period of time even before activating a parachute to slow the landing down to safe speed. Once, the parachute is opened the jumper can control his or her directions and speeds with cords called "steering lines" and with hands and grips called "toogles" .many skydivers skydive because it is the closest one and can get to the dream of flying.

Skydiving is the only aerial activity where the body is the flying instrument instead of a machine. Just as a pilot manipulates the shape of his aircraft's wings, turns, forward motion, backward motion and even lift can be generated, the skydivers direct their body instead of the aircraft. There are several types of Skydiving each of these is enjoyed by both the recreational and competitive participants. There is even a small group of professional who earn their living with skydiving.
