Utah Shakespearean Festival

Utah Shakespearean Festival is one of the major festivals in Utah and is celebrated with lot of enthusiasm. The festival first started in the year 1961. It was started by Fred C. Adams. During the first show the Shakespearean plays performed here were Hamlet, Taming of the Shrew and The Merchant of Venice. This is a cultural festival of the region. It is actually a festival in which the works of various dramatists along with William Shakespeare are celebrated. Their works are remembered with lot of respect. The Utah Shakespearean Festival is held during the fall and summer months. It is held in the campus of one of the major universities in Utah known as the Southern Utah University. It is located in Cedar City of Utah. The festival has also received the award of Regional theater Tony Award for the year 2000.



In the Utah Shakespearean Festival, there are six plays which are performed every year. Among these six plays, three plays are normally of Shakespeare whereas the others are of any other dramatists. The non Shakespearean plays can be of contemporary artists as well. These three non Shakespearean plays can be drama, history or comedy. There can be musical plays as well. In the Utah Shakespearean Festival, the Shakespearean plays are generally performed in the Adams Shakespearean Theater. This theater is said to structured on the designs of the Globe Theater of Shakespeare. The non Shakespearean plays are performed in an indoor stage known as the Randall L. Jones Theater. Other than this, the matinée shows are held in the Auditorium Theater.



Other than all this, various skits and musicals shows are also held in the Utah Shakespearean Festival. These include comedy skits, dumb shows, sword fighting, musical routines and a lot more. When you will be waiting for the show to start, you will find people selling pastries and tarts. They will also entertain with jokes also.
