In the year 1981, Robert Redford founded the Sundance Institute in the mountains of Sundance, Utah. This is a non-profit organization that is dedicated year-round to the development of artists of independent vision and also to the exhibition of their new creation. From its very inception, the Institute has taken the shape of an internationally recognized resource for several independent artists by its Film Festival and other artistic development programs for composers, filmmakers, theatre artists, screenwriters, playwrights and writers. The Sundance Institute Feature Film Program is a year-around program that is dedicated to supporting artist advancement and development of distinct, singular independent projects. Even though the Festival is centered in Park City, it has events in Salt Lake City, Redford's Sundance Village and Ogden City. Every year the Festival programming team, reviews more than thousands of independent films from every corners of the world. These films include almost every language from the different parts, on several topics one could imagine of, and represent many different genres that ranges from animation to cult films to indigenous works. The only mission of the programming team is to find documentaries and feature films that truly challenge, thrill, startle, inspire, delight and move the viewers.
