The Capitol Reef National Park comprises the water pocket fold, which is like a wrinkle in the earth's crust. The park is all filled with bright gleaming white domes, sandstone cliffs, and contrasting layers of stone and earth. The area was named after a line of white domes and cliffs of Navajo Sandstone all of these look more like the capitol building of the United States that is located along the Fremont River to Pleasant Creek on the Waterpocket fold.

The modern Capitol Reef National Park is taken care by the Zion National Park .
