Zion National Park

The Zion National Park is located in the Southwestern United States, near Springdale, Utah. The park is spread in an area of 229 square mile. The park located at the junction of the Colorado plateau, Great Basin and Mojave Desert the park has unique geography with varied life zones allowing for unusual plant and animal diversity. The park has different species of bird about 289 bird species, 75 mammals, 32 reptiles and several plant species. The park's four life zones are usually inhibited by these animals including the desert, riparian, woodland, and coniferous forest. There are several plant species also including the Cottonwood, Cactus, Datura, Juniper, Pine, Boxelder, Sagebrush and various willows.

The deserted area was inhabited by human civilization during 8,000 years before with a small family group of Native Americans. Several other groups also inhabited the area. A different group, the Parowan Fremont, lived in the area as well. In the year 1858 the Mormons discovered the Canyons in 1858 and were settled in early 1860s. In the year 1909 in order to protect the canyon, Mukuntuweap National Monument was established. This monument was further extended and by 1919 this monument was expanded to become the Zion National Park.

The Zion National Park is less visited by the tourists because of its remote location, poor accommodation system and the absence of the direct roads in the southern Utah. The old wagon roads have been upgraded into the first automobile roads starting since 1910. This road into the Zion Canyon was built in 1917, to as far as the Grotto. Many improvements have been done in the area with passage of time. The area can be reached by the Zion Mount Carmel Highway. it can be traveled all through the year.
