Beaver Dam Wash

Cited as one of the lowest elevation points and the hottest spots in Utah, the Beaver Dam Wash is an unique experience for those visiting the arid, desert zones of the state. As of now, the lowest elevation noted in the region has been the height of 2178 feet above sea level, making it the fifth low spot point in the US. Forming a part of the Mojave Desert ecosystem, the area around the Beaver Dam Wash stream forms part of the Beaver Dam Mountains Wilderness. Sharing a boundary with the northwest Arizona, the Wilderness area is located in the southwestern part of Utah. As an out-of the way tourist spot, Beaver Dam Wash ensures a trip that you will not forget easily. It is Mother nature with all her rugged beauty, gentle slopes, Joshua forest and a desert wildlife, including rattlesnakes, lizards and various bird species.

What strikes out most in the region is the immediate solitude and calmness. Horseback riding is a good option here, as there are no marked trails and hikers have to bushwhack their path in order to reach their destination. Cars are not suitable for the region and the best mode of transport are trucks and other heavy vehicles. Sparsely populated, the best time to visit Beaver Dam Wash is during the spring, the fall and the winters. In the summers, the temperature can exceed hundred degree Celsius, and walking during the excess heat should definitely be avoided. The Beaver Dam Wash inventory unit, spread over an area of 25,200 acres, provides some of the best facilities in the region. Day hiking, photography, bird watching and nature viewing are some of the activities that visitors can indulge in.

The primitive surroundings of Beaver Dam Wash gives the feel of being completely alone in the entire region. Prone to floods and heavy thunderstorms, one can get panoramic view from the hill tops, thus witnessing the typical Mojave vegetation of Joshua, blackbrush, beavertail cactus and barrel cactus, among others.
