Temple Square

Spread over an area of 10 acres in the heart of the Salt Lake City, Temple Square is a major tourist attraction in the entire region. A hub of Mormon history and local culture, Temple Square encompasses within its 15 feet walls, the world famous Salt Lake temple representing the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Salt lake Tabernacle, important statues and monuments, Visitors' Centers and the Salt lake Assembly Hall, among others. Its construction began in 1852 and the other historic buildings were built eventually through the nineteenth century. Marked by well-maintained gardens, the Temple Square witness a throng of more than five million tourists each year.



In the winters, Temple Square gets a completely new look, as it dazzles with lights and Christmas and New Year celebrations. Open to the public all round the year from 9:00am to 9:00pm, it is popular for its location in the downtown Salt Lake City. The majestic Salt Lake Temple does not allow visitors inside the temple, except for the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Salt Lake Tabernacle is an architectural wonder as it hosts the world's best acoustics. The Tabernacle also hosts weekly shows of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, which is a favorite with the locals as well.



The best feature of the Temple Square is the fact that one can experience so many historical buildings, all within a walking distance. There are two Visitors' Centers, the North and the South, which cater to all the queries of tourists. The former hosts the stunning statue of Jesus Christ, standing tall at the height of 11 feet. The Family History Library offers the collection of best genealogical resources.
