Wasatch Range

Nature has been rather generous to this stunningly beautiful and majestic Wasatch Range that runs from the boundaries of Utah and Idaho from the Bear River in the north to Mount Nebo near Nemphi in the center of the state. With a height of not more then 12,000 feet above sea level, the Wasatch Range is not particularly high, in relation to the Colorado Rockies or the Uinta Mountains. The highest peak of the Wasatch is Mount Nebo at a height of 11,928 feet. But the sudden steep climb of mountains from the valley itself gives the feel of an impressive height to the Wasatch Range.

Forming the Western edge of the Rocky Mountains, the Wasatch Range has been an important source of natural resources to the majority of population living within fifteen miles of these mountain ranges. The capital city, Salt Lake City is located within this urban area, which is popularly known as the Wasatch Front. Some of the other major cities in Wasatch Front are Sandy, Ogden, West Valley City and Provo.

The Wasatch Range is one of the major tourist attractions in western Utah. Best known for its world-class skiing areas, the rugged beauty of the range has been one of the major sources of income for many in the Wasatch Front. The Wasatch Range is the hub of outdoor recreation in Utah, ranging from skiing, hiking, mountain climbing, snowshoeing and camping. They receive snowfall of almost 500 inches within the months of October and May. This snow is considered one of the best for cross-country skiing.

Some of the well known skiing areas in the Wasatch Range are the Strawberry Rigde skiing, offering more than 40 mile trips, ranging from easy to moderate; the Tibble Fork Skiing for beginners' and intermediate cross-country skiers and the North Fork Park, for a short and easy trip. There are guided tours as well for wildflowers' hiking on the Wasatch Range during the summers. A paradise for enthusiasts of outdoor enthusiasts!
