Paiute, Shoshone, and Bannock Indians were among the few earliest settlers of the region. Home to Utah Lake and Bear Lake the city is a hub for snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing and a whole lot of other water sports. With a land that takes in too much of water farming in the area was never easy. with the flourishing business of silver mining mounting over the region of Little Cottonwood Canyon Sandy as a city came into prominence. In 1873 Sandy was connected to Salt Lake City and since then the railroad has played a vital role in improving the transportation facilities of the area. Today the tracks are used for transferring freights.
