Sneak Profile:
Situated in the Salt Lake Valley between the Oquirrh Mountain Range and the Wasatch mountain range, West Jordan is the fourth largest city. The city lies in the south western part of the Salt Lake City at an elevation of about 4,330 ft. The City is a lively one having all world class facilities like close proximity to the international airport, has world class resorts, education benefits and many employment opportunities.




History:
West Jordan was settled by the Mormon settlers who came to the Salt Lake Valley in the mid 19 th century. They considered the area to be their Holy Land and named the settlement as the Western Jordon. The early West Jordan had to depend on the agriculture , mills, and the mining activity for their source of subsistence. One of the first sawmills was built here by Archibald Gardner who was Mormon. The historic mills and the houses have been renovated and kept in the shopping district of Gardner Village. Issues of transportation is of top concern for this rapidly growing city of Utah. Though several plans have been executed in order to get rid of the problem like the Utah Transit Authority , some plans are still under construction. But the government is convinced that in short span of time the city of West Jordan will attract lot of visitors from round the globe which would help in growth of the tourism industry.

Quick facts:
Many companies have their headquarters in West Jordan Wasatch Software, Cyprus Credit Union, Mountain America Credit Union, and Dunford Bakeries. Some corporations have their regional centers in the city , namely, Sysco, Kraftmaid, Balkamp, Fairchild Semiconductor, and Dannon Yogurt Company. Utah Army National Guard has its base in the city. Jordon Valley is the most important hospital of the city. And Salt Lake Community College is set to be the main campus in the city after its completion in the year 2020.
